about

Matthew Troyer (b. 1988) is an American artist and educator whose work examines the enduring presence of war in American life. A former U.S. Marine Corps Combat Photographer, he works across photography, video, sound, and sculptural installation to trace how militarization shapes memory, identity, and consumer culture. Drawing on this experience, he considers how conflict persists beyond the battlefield, embedded in everyday objects, landscapes, and narratives of national belonging within the American imagination.

Troyer received his BFA, with honors, in Photography and Imaging from Ringling College of Art and Design in 2022 and an MFA in Studio Art from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2024. He is projected to receive his MA in Visual Anthropology from the University of Manchester, England in 2026.
