Playful Contact

These images are from a recent series titled Playful Contact. This is a series of cyanotype photograms created with toys from the Dollar Tree. A photogram is a simple process that creates one-of-a-kind works of art. I want students to know this is simple but serious technique for creating works of art.
Growing up in a small town in southern Indiana one of my biggest fears was running to a Tyrannosaurus Rex. You might say this was not possible for the Tyrannosaurus Rex roamed the earth over 66 million years ago. That would seem logical but my older brother told me otherwise. After a few weeks of nightmares and running inside the house when a cloud cast a dark shadow upon me, my brother confessed [by order of my mother] that I was safe – Tyrannosaurus Rex was no longer in the neighborhood. It was a relief. We all have childhood memories, dreams and fears. In a very simple way I am attempting to explore the quirks of childhood memory by using toys and the art of the photogram.
