many moons

"many moons" draws from past and present influences and media. Blurred references are made to Merry Moor Winnett's moon series completed while battling breast cancer. Portraits I made of Merry with black and white infrared film and images of a lunar eclipse I photographed were all taken in the summer of 1994, just prior to her passing. Recent digital photographs and scans provide elements of surface, texture, color and light to the layers. Images of the moon's surface detailing the Mare Imbrium, Latin for sea of showers or sea of rains, are from NASA. These public domain images are juxtaposed and blended with images from the private domain of mammogram x-rays.
