32830

When our experiences are being mediated and shaped through virtual realities and planned communities, it is important to re-examine the context and effect of escapism, artifice, and the suspension of disbelief in architecture and constructed landscapes. Photographed entirely in Florida, 32830's imagery depicts spaces through which humans escape while engaging fantasy, early memories, and visions of ideal states of being. As the boundaries between fantasy and the everyday begin to dissolve, the two begin to merge creating a confused and insulating effect.
In 2016, the project began to realign itself into addressing the early photographic desire to create an evidentiary document of distant locales. The representational aspect of photography, acting as a stand-in of a place, becomes more questionable when the places being depicted are themselves representational of distant spaces. It is the uneasy notion of photographic truth and its implementation that directs this work and illuminates my efforts.
