about

Dilmar M. Gamero S. is a Peruvian-born, Latino Philadelphia-based visual artist and teacher. His research and art practice incorporate photography, film, and new media, transcending the specifics of the medium and offering a new understanding of the world, stressing the conceptual art-making capacities of each form.

His creative research is related to his work and academic studies in philosophy, theology, and visual arts. He merges traditional and digital image-making processes to explore the materiality and physicality of multidimensional images, objects, and environments. His work is focused on the representation and interpretation of memory, time and space, identity, ephemerality and abstraction, rituality, religiosity, dynamics of the individual and the collective, storytelling, and the presence and absence of minority groups in historical archives.

He received his BFA in Audiovisual Communication at the Catholic Pontifical University of Peru in Lima, an MFA in Photography at Tyler School of Art, Philadelphia, and a Ph.D. in Documentary Arts and Visual Research at the School of Theater, Film and Media Arts at Temple University.
