about

Carol Record is an interdisciplinary artist, designer, and educator exploring the intersections of photography, energy, spirituality, and storytelling. She holds an MFA in Visual Communication Design and teaches photography and design for Upper Iowa University. Her work blends experimental techniques like long exposure and intentional camera movement with themes of emotion, healing, and the human condition—often using photography as a form of art therapy and a tool for processing trauma. She is the founder of Blackwater Buccaneers, an educational game publishing company, and the creator of Lumen PhotoVocab Game, a card game that makes photographic critique and vocabulary more accessible through play.

Carol's images often serve as meditations on memory, emotion, and the unseen forces that move through our lives. Based in the American South but often traveling, she draws inspiration from place, light, and personal experience. Her work frequently explores the human condition through the lens of her own lived experience, including projects like #MeToo and COVID Diaries, where the personal becomes a pathway to collective reflection.
