Adverse

Adverse questions the use of pharmaceutical medications as a primary means of treating mental illness without considering the unique body and chemical makeup of the individual. I create portraits that exist as second hand accounts of what mental illness "looks like", as opposed to images that depict those living with mental illness as scared, weak, and unstable. The images questions the role of the photographic image in the conversation regarding mental illness, and a history of images that only perpetuate stigma, and insecurity.
