about
Abigail Doan's interdisciplinary projects and photo narratives explore site-specific connectivity and terrain preservation. The materials and objects populating her studio library serve as an archive of conceptual forms to be installed and documented in adaptable ways. Fiber/cloth, soil/clay, and sculpted biological and geological specimens co-exist with photographic recordings of ideas about loss, memory, and personal resilience. Her community outreach and environmental research includes travels in Bhutan, Nepal, India, the Chihuahuan desert, the Hopi Nation and the American southwest, Bulgaria, Greece, Italy, Macedonia, Serbia, Southeast Asia, Turkey, and remote locales globally.
Abigail attended Princeton University before she matriculated to Purchase College where she was awarded a BFA, summa cum laude. She completed additional coursework with the International Center of Photography, as well as storytelling workshops with Alec Soth and Cristina de Middel at Magnum Photos. Abigail has also worked as a researcher/writer for documentary film, digital multimedia, and print publications. She lives between the U.S. and Europe.
