Re-reading Photos Through Narratives explores contemporary photography in Iran by framing artistic practices within their cultural and political contexts. The lecture examines how photographers engage with urgency, time, and representation, while proposing alternative ways of rereading the history of photography in the region. It argues that revisiting the past through cultural perspectives allows us to liberate history from clichés, heal the present, and open space for hope in the future. Drawing on the ongoing archival research project Tasvir (initiated in 2022) and its recent exhibition at Northlight Gallery and Step Gallery, Arizona State University, the talk presents a research-based perspective on this context.
