Land, Body & Archive
John Sommers Gallery at the University of New Mexico is excited to host Land, Body & Archive, an exhibition by Southwest Photo Collaborative current MFA students and SPE members from the University of New Mexico, Arizona State University, and the University of Arizona.
Please join us for a reception on 9/8 from 5 - 7 p.m.
This exhibition speaks to the practices of thirteen artists in the midst of excavating and alchemizing their visions alongside one another. Member curators Nathan Cordova, Emma Ressel and li rothrock share,
"The works selected eviscerate the boundaries between how our individual photography practices examine relationships to Land, Body and Archive. The artists employ storytelling, collage, and the recontextualization of imagery to challenge dominant narratives, borders, histories, and ourselves. This conjunctive presentation connects the nodes of our experiences across the American Southwest to underscore our collective concerns and create an experience to encounter photography, each other, and the world anew."
Participating Artists Include:
Jacqueline Arias, Nathan Cordova, Zoë Gleitsman, claudia hermano, Mehrdad Mirzaie, Richard Pence, Elizabeth Piñeda, Emma Ressel, Francis Reynolds, li rothrock, Anna Rotty, Brianna Tadeo, & Nicholas Valdés
John Sommers Gallery is open Monday - Friday 8:30 a.m. - 4:45 p.m., and by appointment. For more information about the exhibition, to schedule a visit, and for high-res files please email Anna at sommersgallery@unm.edu or follow @swphotocollab on Instagram.
