Source Material
The Colorado Photographic Arts Center (CPAC) in collaboration with Humble Arts Foundation presents Source Material, an exhibition that includes eight artists who alter found, vernacular and family archive photos to navigate personal and cultural history and trauma.
From the Dadaists through the Pictures Generation and beyond, artists have used found imagery as source material for larger ideas, often to critique popular media, express irony, or wax nostalgic.
Moving past these often impersonal traditions, the artists in Source Material warmly visualize personal experiences and give new meaning to overlooked or forgotten histories. They use a range of approaches – from digitally manipulating found images to creating image sculptures – all with a sense of care that honors and elevates their past.
Curated by Jon Feinstein and Roula Seikaly. The exhibit is on view from August 13 - September 25, 2021 with an opening reception on Friday, August 13 from 6-9pm.
Exhibiting artists: Julie Lee, Ina Lounguine, Alayna Pernell, Birthe Piontek, Jody W. Poorwill, Diego Romo, Pacifico Silano, and Aaron Turner
