Faculty Lecture Series: Tacking! New Directions in Ecological Research and Teaching with Dr. Jim Chace
A summary of work from Spring 2025 sabbatical leading to new directions in teaching, service and research at Salve Regina!
Jameson Chace is a professor of biology and is chair of the interdisciplinary majors in the Department of Cultural, Environmental, and Global Studies. He is an active participant in professional Ornithological societies including serving as President of the Wilson Ornithological Society. Dr. Chace's research is based on creating opportunities for undergraduates to gain experiences in field ecology and environmental sciences. To that end, he has been awarded two National Science Foundation RI-EPSCoR grants related to marine response to climate change. Dr. Chace is the author of 25 peer-reviewed papers and have given nine papers at national conferences in the past 10 years. He spends a significant amount of time in the field, locally in the forests and wetlands of Aquidneck Island studying bird behavior, along the coastline of Narragansett Bay studying sea ducks and osprey, measuring water quality in ponds, streams and the coastal environment, and on field trips to New Hampshire, Cape Cod, Belize and Brazil.
