The Art of Photographic Bookmaking: Inspiration, Creation & Acquisition

La Luz Workshops is offering "The Art of Photographic Bookmaking: Inspiration, Creation & Acquisition", a symposium led by Susan kae Grant with Mary Virginia Swanson, joined by Special Guests.

This online class will explore the many options available to artists when considering the book form, including small press, fine art press, self-published, and handmade artist's books.

Topics include:

- The structure of the visual book
- Innovative book designs
- Methodologies for incorporating images and texts
- Photobook mock-ups and alternative book forms
- Options for fabrication and collaborative production
- Marketing for collectors and collections

Participants will be inspired and empowered to envision their own photobook, from concept to design to production, while gaining a deep understanding of the critical relationship between form and content.

- Book Artists: Cig Harvey, Maureen Cummins, Ann Fessler, and María Verónica San Martin

- Book Designers and Publishers: Lewis Chaplin (Loose Joints) and Gianluca & Gianmarco Gamberini (L'Artiere Edizioni)

- Special Collection Librarian: Marieke Van Der Steenhoven (Bowdoin College)

- Specialty Photographer: Richard Klein

DATES: Saturdays, May 10 - June 7, 2025 (no class on May 24)
11 AM - 6 PM (US EDT - Online)
