Martha Strawn Photographic Lecture Series / Clarissa Sligh
The Light Factory is pleased to announce its inaugural lecturer, Clarissa Sligh, for the new Martha Strawn Photographic Lecture Series. The Series is made possible by an endowment from photographer Martha Strawn (one of the original founders of The Light Factory in 1973) and will be awarded yearly to a prominent speaker in the field of photographic expression.
Clarissa Sligh (born 1939) is an internationally acclaimed and highly awarded artist, writer, and educator. She is known for her compelling photo-text images, artists’ books, and text-based installations exploring richly layered concepts such as identity, politics, social justice, memory, and history. Titles of her many books include: Wrongly Bodied: Documenting Transition from Female to Male (2009), It Wasn’t Little Rock (2004), and Coast to Coast: Women Artists of Color (1988).
