Workshop: From Pixels to Press

Learn to create, publish and market your photo book!

In this hands-on workshop led by Janet Delaney and Melanie Light, you will edit your photographs and text to suit your target audience, design and publish your book using the book module on Lightroom (or a similar layout program) and then send the file to press at one of several on-demand publishers like Blurb, MagCloud or PsPrint.

The class will learn design basics from book designer Nola Burger. You'll make two book dummies for group critiques. Then, when your books arrive from the printer, we will celebrate with a book release party at SF Camerawork.

This is an intermediate class and students are required to bring their own laptops with Lightroom installed (available free from Adobe for a 30 day trial period). If you are familiar with other layout programs you may use those.

Over the course of three class sessions, you will learn how to:

- Edit, sequence and do basic layout for your print-on-demand book
- Create a professional format for your book including colophon, ISBN numbers, and copyright
- Use the best social media tools to attract new readers and create a basic marketing planfor your book
