Land is contentious; we fight wars over it, we claim to own it, and then manipulate it for our use. When I moved onto new property, sharing ground with native histories, I encountered an ancient energy. I began to think about our place in time, reflecting––whose land it is anyway. Even though I hold the deed, in my heart I know that I don't own this land. Are the peoples who have come before encrusted in these hills? Does the land, eretz, remember? If so, how are the memories and energies released, and will I become the silt of its history? In my project I seek answers to these questions.I will present this work, which is a prayer that we will reflect on our relationship to the land that we inhabit, and our larger obligation to Earth. Only then can we have peace upon it.
Dialogue and critique are important to the SPE mission.
