Robert Dickes
Friday, October 18 - 12:30PM to 3:00PM
Murphy Auditorium
This workshop will start with a quick look at teaching lighting and how to get students to understand properties of light and professional studio practices in a creative practice. I will share my formula taken from years of commercial work and put into a fine art practice and how this gives students the tools to create very technical lighting while thinking in conceptual terms. In the end I will share an entire semester worth of work including assignments and presentations for you to use.
The second half of the workshop will introduce adding splashes of color using strobe lighting and colored gels to create dynamic images. Participants will learn the secret to splitting light to control light fall off, color bleed, and more. As part of this workshop you will have the opportunity to use multiple lighting modifiers and to create your own images with one of our models.
Dialogue and critique are important to the SPE mission.
