Hello I'm Black

Saturday, October 24 - 9:30AM to 10:15AM

What is the black experience? What does it mean to be black? These are the questions that I am currently asking in my active thesis work. It addresses the controversial topic of African American dysphoria mixed with conversational cultural stigmatism's and stereotypes that are placed on black people especially black women. Using cultural colloquialisms as an avenue to connect the scatter dots of the Black American story told from the wrong perspective. Speaking through my live, video, poetic performances and editorial portraits I aim to raise the awareness of my audience as I ask simple yet direct questions that insight an internal and external dialogue with oneself. I will show my current thesis work and walk through my photographic and performative works and the progenitors of my concepts as they pertain to the growing global uproar of what define the black experience.
