On February 13, 2010 Welsh artist Richard Cynan Jones created The Calotype Society on flickr to search for others who shared his passion for 19th century paper negative processes. The online group now includes 205 members from around the world. A handful of photographers who met on this site gathered in the summer of 2013 to share images and ideas in the small village of Lacock in Wiltshire, England where William Henry Fox Talbot invented the earliest versions of the process. This is the first exhibit featuring the work of those Calotype Society members, who continue to meet in order to work and explore the medium together. They share a passion for the history of photography, its cultural implications, and the unique aesthetic qualities of the paper negative. Each has honed her or his own variations on the process while continuing to experiment and to research the historic practice and practitioners.
