Presentation: Creating Maternal Identity through Photography by Cynthia Miller
Creating Maternal Identity through Photography; reflects on how we define motherhood in the twenty-first century, especially when that definition needs to cover a greater and greater variety of mothers. Beginning with the idea that Identity is a project always in progress, based on past and present experiences and heading toward our future hopes. The talk presents the works of photographic artists who explore the variations of the mother-identity. "We perform these identities as photographers, and in performing them, create realities specific to our experiences of motherhood."
Dialogue and critique are important to the SPE mission.
