I have long been fascinated with photography that engages the mythological. The premise is a nearly impossible one: how can the camera, a mechanical device of material world, possibly express the spiritual realms? I will discus how development of process has been critical to my work, and how process and content can become essentially interchangeable. Two recent projects of mine, Suburban Sublime and The Householders, were born of a desire to create original, personal approaches to the medium that push photography beyond its literal tethering, all the while remaining photographic. My work is an exploration of the liminal spaces between process and content, fantasy and reality, figuration and abstraction.
Dialogue and critique are important to the SPE mission.
