My work has been recognized by a Guggenheim Fellowship, a Creative Work Fund grant, and a National Endowment For the Arts Fellowship. My books include "Robert Dawson Photographs"; "The Great Central Valley: California's Heartland"; "Farewell, Promised Land: Waking From the California Dream" and "A Doubtful River". My latest book is "The Public Library: A Photographic Essay" (Princeton Architectural Press, 2014). In 2015 the Library of Congress collected my entire Public Library project for their permanent archive. I recently retired from teaching at San Jose State University after 26 years. I have been an Instructor of Photography at Stanford University since 1996.
