Amber Hoy grew up in Yankton, South Dakota. Hoy enlisted in the US Army and deployed to Iraq as an ammunition specialist from 2006-2007. She received her BA with an emphasis in photography from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and an MFA in Photography + Integrated Media from Ohio University. Her work explores issues of women in the military and the intersection of trauma. In the last two years, she has exhibited her work at the San Francisco Art Commission Gallery and the National Veterans Art Museum. Hoy currently works at the Kala Art Institute in Berkeley, CA.
