Gay Pasley’s empathetic photography style developed out of a lifetime of giving to and connecting with people. Born into a difficult childhood in St. John’s, Antigua, Gay arrived in America as an illegal immigrant at a time when diversity was far from embraced. Born to an African-American father and West Indian mother, she considers Oklahoma her home and says, “I have been planted and grown beautifully in the red dirt that Oklahoma so generously offers.”
Gay values integrity and craftsmanship and those qualities manifest through her diverse interests. She has already ventured across the Atlantic to document the people of Sierra Leone, a notable endeavor, and is composing the stories that may strike at the heart of our recent history. From ugly duckling to self made Black Swan, Gay Pasley sees humanity with a depth of understanding that is reflected in her work.
Dialogue and critique are important to the SPE mission.
