All of Our Secrets Are the Same

Megan Badger

Saturday, September 26 - 1:00PM to 1:50PM
University of Oklahoma - FJC 203

Megan Badger is a photographer, mixed-media artist and educator working in Houston, Texas. Her work has strong ties to the metaphysical and the poetic, and it stems from personal narratives that are veiled by her background and interest in theatre, literature, and mythology. Some of the themes that arise in Badger's work include: memory, the body as a vehicle for guilt, pleasure, pain, and transformation, as well as the power of myth and magic as a means to interpreting narratives. The idea of ritual is also integral to the subject matter of the work, mostly relating to the psychology associated with ritual and its power over people’s perceived transformations. Recent work consists of several primarily photography based, mixed media series developed from previous imagery, and recent personal experiences with loss, desire, and the secretive nature of both. Many of the images have animal and plant elements evident, and attempt to connect to the viewer viscerally, in an earthy and sensuous manner, similarly to how magical realist literature uses those same methods to emphasize transformation. “All of Our Secrets Are the Same,” centers around her imagemaking, themes, process, mythology creation, and widespread inspirations.
