David Newman is an artist, educator, and emeritus gallery director. He received the Bachelor of Fine Arts in studio art from The University of Texas at Austin 1970, and the Master of Fine Arts from The University of Texas at Austin in 1973, with postgraduate work 1973'Äî1974. He returned to The University of Texas at Austin Art Department to teach fine arts photography during the 1975-1978 academic years. He has taught at Brookhaven College since 1980, where he now teaches printmaking, fine arts photography, and digital courses, and served as Gallery Director from 1991-2021. David Newman's work is centered in printmaking, photography, book arts, and other works on paper. Much of his professional practice, and research interest, concentrates on hybrid process printmaking, integrating large format photographic, digital, and drawn means of image development, culminating in ink on paper using traditional hand printmaking processes.
Dialogue and critique are important to the SPE mission.
