Patterns steps away from performance, seeking new ways to speak through art
Jorge Arturo Herrera Nuñez, also known as Cherry Wood, is a Honduran, Canadian American artist who earned both a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Fine Arts at the University of Windsor in Canada. Over the past four years, he has attended ten art residencies across Europe, Mexico, and the United States with support from the Canada Council for the Arts. His work explores identity, protection, and displacement through photographic scenes that reference family traditions and migratory patterns, as well as by retrofitting folkloric clothing from his native home. His projects address self exploration, queer experience, workplace, and community engagement, and have been supported by CultureSource, the Andy Warhol Foundation, the National Association of Latino Arts and Cultures, and the Foundation for Contemporary Arts. His practice draws from immigration, memory, and the ways the body carries fear and desire through transformation. He is currently a fellow candidate at Cranbrook Academy of Art pursuing a Master degree in Photography.
