Deborah Hollis with Dana Fritz and Deborah Orloff
Friday, October 10 - 1:00PM to 1:50PM
College for Creative Studies
Based on meeting visual artists where they gather annually at SPE, Deborah Hollis discusses how she and her colleagues long realized CU Boulder Library's interdisciplinary collections may serve as an important resource in making art or researching photo history. The David H. Tippit and Alan Scuba Photobook Collections include fine art works mostly by twentieth-century photographers in the former, and travel and ethnographic photographic works in the latter. Unique construction format defines the scope of the Book Arts Collection which includes photography-based works. Combined with the Ira Wolff Collection of Photographic History and collections, visual artists have access to over 50,000 titles in addition to maps and extensive archival collections. These resources warrant wider use, hence creating a fellowship to promote unique materials while giving valuable access to image makers and scholars. The panel will introduce SPE members to this newly established opportunity.
Dialogue and critique are important to the SPE mission.
