Richard Sharum is a documentary photographer based in the Dallas, Texas area. Mainly focusing on socio-economic or social justice dilemmas concerning the human condition, his work has been regarded as in-depth, up-close and personal. Selected exhibitions have occurred in Kyoto, Japan, Sao Paulo, Brazil, Reggio Emilia, Italy (Fotografea Europea), Tbilisi, Georgia (KOLGA Intl Festival), Boston, Chicago (Filter Photo) and Dallas.
His work has been added to the permanent collection of the Witliff Center for Documentary Studies, Amon Carter Museum, The Museum of Fine Art
(Houston), Cleveland Museum of Art, as well as others.His commissions include those by The Meadows Foundation, Centers for Community, Children's Medical Center, Children's Cancer Fund. His publications include those by British Journal of Photography, Lens Culture, B+W Photo Mag, The Atlantic, Texas Monthly, Publico, El Pais, The New York Times Lens Blog, Glasstire, PATRON, among others. He was a finalist for the ICP / GOST First PhotoBook Award in 2019 and became a XXXII Eddie Adams Alumnus. His first major title Campesino Cuba was released September 2021 under GOST Books (London), and his work was selected for American Photography 38 in 2022.
