Doug Dertinger lives and works in Sacramento, CA where he is an assistant professor of photography at Sacramento State University and a volunteer professor at Patterson University's Prison Program at San Quentin State Prison, CA. His photographic work is primarily concerned with issues surrounding land use, and has exhibited both nationally and internationally. His most current research is centered on the depiction of landscape and its relationship to civic and national identity, as well as with the investigation of peripheral landscapes that emerge accidentally or unintentionally from the larger patterns of urban development.
Dialogue and critique are important to the SPE mission.
