Elle Olivia Andersen is a photographic artist based in Columbia, South Carolina. Originally from Miami, Florida, she began her exploration of photography as a creative outlet in 2010, while studying Sociology and Biology with a Studio Art minor at the University of South Carolina.
Her work explores the culture and identity of the people in the southern landscape, using sense of place to provoke conversation and curiosity about a way of life that relies heavily on tradition and community. Photographs from her current series, The Mountain Stands Still, a two year project exploring the life of a man named Robert living in the Appalachian mountains of South Carolina, has been favorably received by editors at Smithsonian Magazine, National Geographic and Lenscratch. Elle focuses on using the image as an art form with an element of storytelling as a way to explore the world and the people living in it. Her process includes both digital and large format film.
