My work explores how land use, the landscapes created by it, and their social history affect cultural geography. Themes of ownership, demarcation, and utilization are explored across media. Such investigations contemplate the social, economic, and political narratives that define particular landscapes, as well as the cultures that are dependent upon them. Recent projects include Dangerous Waters, a long-form investigation into the contemporary landscapes of the Tennessee Valley Authority’s hydroelectric program and Land Marks, a brief exploration on the rapidly growing and visually forgettable suburban expansion of Charlotte.
Dialogue and critique are important to the SPE mission.
