The Mountain Stands Still is a series of photographs that explores the life of a man named Robert and his deep attachment to the landscape. It investigates how the passage of time and connection of place can profoundly shape our values and identity.
Consisting of both portraits and landscapes, this body of work uses sense of place to provoke conversation about the people and their relationship with the southern landscape. Evolving from past projects and an ongoing interest in how we attach ourselves to the land we call home, my work focuses on using the image as an art form with an element of storytelling, in an attempt to examine how we contemplate being part of something larger than ourselves.
As with most of my photographic work, this project has given me the opportunity to seek out environments and meet people I would not have met otherwise, while establishing connections with strangers who have invited me into their homes and shared their most intimate spaces. In this presentation, I will share my experiences of photographing in the mountain region, my choice of lighting and technique and my overall thought process and method for selecting the people and places I photograph.
Dialogue and critique are important to the SPE mission.
