Presentation description from Chris Metzger: "As a socially engaged artist/educator living and working in Baltimore, MD, my teaching practice often engages students in collaborative-based projects that encourage an exploration of self within larger social frameworks. Centered on fostering community and the investigation of representational justice through a historical and contemporary lens, our work critiques and challenges the status quo while developing critical perspectives and an urgency to bring about social change through acts of creative resistance. Through public art projects, class assignments, and exhibition design, I'll share examples of a collaborative practice that encourages vulnerability, empathy, and respect, while activating the classroom as a place where each voice carries equal weight and responsibility in contributing to our collective pursuit of knowledge."
Dialogue and critique are important to the SPE mission.
