Alex Gencarelli is a multidisciplinary artist, working in the medium of photography, video, performance, installation, and sound. Her work explores themes of trauma and its hold on the body and psyche. Her work explores the misconstructions that can live within memories, the unconscious desire to relive the trauma, and the ties that have historically been made between the feminine and hysteria. Often, she uses the trope of repetition and familiarity to reference the compulsory cycle of trauma. Alex received her MFA in photography at the Rhode Island School of Design in 2017, and her BFA from Rowan University in 2011. She has exhibited throughout the Northeast and currently lives and works in Rhode Island.
