Explore the creative possibilities of botanical toning in cyanotype photography. This hands-on workshop introduces the historic cyanotype process and demonstrates how plant-based materials can transform its signature Prussian blue into unexpected colors and tonal variations. Participants will create two cyanotype prints from digital negatives prepared in advance by the instructor using submitted images. They'll learn essential techniques including paper coating, exposure, washing, and print processing, then experiment with baths and extracts made from Midwest native and invasive plants. Designed for beginners and experienced artists alike, the workshop connects photography, ecology, experimentation, and a sense of place.
Joseph Mougel will be assisted by undergraduate student researchers, Spirit Hess and Alexx Jackowski.
