Emily Hanako Momohara is a mixed race Japanese American, artist, educator and activist. Momohara serves as Associate Professor of Studio Art at the Art Academy of Cincinnati and has a robust studio practice. Her role as faculty is always evolving and centers student agency. She claims to "profess" nothing, but curate experiences for students to self-evaluate, problem solve and be lifelong learners. Momohara's creative research centers around issues of heritage, multiculturalism, immigration and social justice. She has exhibited internationally, most notably in the Changjiang International Photography & Video Biennale in Chongqing, China and a 2-person exhibition at the Japanese American National Museum titled Sugar Islands. In 2021, she was awarded a Truth and Reconciliation Grant from Artworks for her film 'Namba' which premiered in July.
Dialogue and critique are important to the SPE mission.
