Wax on. Wax off. is a photographic encaustic demonstration that introduces participants to altering the applied wax surface on a photographic print. The workshop will last approximately three hours, during which time the participants will be shown a technique of applying melted beeswax to the surface of gelatin silver fiber prints, and, using a stencil, carving/removing areas of the wax to create a design in the surface of the wax.
Participants are strongly encouraged to bring in their own 8x10 fiber print and to have a stencil design of text or image already prepared on copy paper.
*Note: Inkjet prints do not work well for this process.
Dialogue and critique are important to the SPE mission.
Please join the conversation.
