John graduated from East Carolina University in 2005 with a BFA in Photography and a minor in Art History. Lacking a darkroom, he uses non-toxic alternative processes to make photograms and contact prints. The interaction of dyes and chemistries are endlessly fascinating to him. He is excited to have found a reason to draw on his knowledge and interest in historical and natural dyeing processes for inspiration. Far less invested in the final product of his work than in exploring and documenting the processes, it is his current ambition to become the best anthotype printer in the world. These seems reasonable, since he enjoys setting achievable goals involving obscure 19th century photographic processes. When not pursuing this goal, he works with cyanotypes printed on animal vellum, toning techniques for cyanotypes and lumen prints.Currently John works as an adjunct professor at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, SC and as an instructor of adult education classes at The Light Factory in Charlotte, NC. His work has been shown in North Carolina, Illinois and South Carolina.
