I Need - To Breathe | A collaborative photography project voicing racial inequalities and social injustices with the statement "I need - to breathe"

Saturday, September 26 - 5:00PM to 5:45PM

In the last week of school, with the exhausting challenges of remote learning immediately being outweighed by critical conversations on race, I surprised myself by inviting my Milton Academy advanced students to voluntarily join me in a non-school-related-no-credit-completely-volunteer collaborative project. Three of my talented local photo students enthusiastically took me up on the offer and we set about utilizing the medium of photography to amplify the voices of our participants and provide a platform for people to be heard and seen. "I can't breathe"...These 3 words sadly inspired our prompt for participants to fill in the blank, "I NEED ___ TO BREATHE." The prompt allowed them to personally reflect on a meaningful way to express themselves.
