Associate Professor/Department Coordinator, Salt Lake Community College (SLCC), Visual Art & Design Department. Born/Raised in Manhattan Beach, CA (still a beach kid at heart). Got 'serious' about photography -receiving degree and certificates- while living in Portland, OR and spending four-years working in Yellowstone NP and Red Lodge, MT during the 80s. Has worked as an assistant for commercial/fine art photographers, and ran successful commercial and lens-based art business. Participant and award winner in numerous shows. Thirty-five years shooting and twenty-five years teaching photography. Recipient of: Kodak's National Photography Educator Award, SLCC Teaching Excellence Award, SLCC Distinguished Faculty Award, third basemen Yellowstone National Park Softball Champs, and Most Inspirational Trumpeter Award seventh-grade band. Developed the SLCC Photography Program and numerous photography courses (still tweaks them as needed). Recent teaching emphasis is on a mindfulness approach to photography, exploring creative and personal vision, photo history, and examining diversity through photography. Continues to support his addiction of analog photography (and music), but can use a histogram with the best of them.
Dialogue and critique are important to the SPE mission.
