Co-Founder of the In-Sight Photography Project and Professor at Marlboro College
Friday, November 10 - 4:30PM to 5:30PM
As co-founder and current board member of the In-Sight Photography Project, Guggenheim Fellow, and Professor at Marlboro College, we're pleased to announce this year's SPE Northeast Honored Educator John Willis!
Willis will present on his own photography and related community engagement work he does through photography. As a confirmed believer in experiential learning, John has always long used the process of making images as an opportunity to get out into the world relating to communities, learning how he fits into the world around him and attempting to make a positive contribution through engagement. Since the early 1980's he has taught photography in a wide range of alternative settings with people from kindergarten through seniors in nursing homes. In 1992, he co-founded The In-Sight Photography Project in Vermont and in 2003 its Exposures Cross cultural Youth Arts Program. In-Sight now offers photography courses at the introductory, intermediate and advanced levels for students ages 11 to 18, and has served over 2,500 youth.
Dialogue and critique are important to the SPE mission.
