Nome as Place explores my coming of age in rural Alaska. The work is primarily landscapes that were shot digitally, converted to digital negatives and printed with the platinum/palladium process. Beyond the process I will talk about the time it took to produce the body of work, the "outsider" perspective I took on and how that evolved into an intimate relationship with Nome beyond the "landscape." There's a fair amount of depth to this body of work as it touches on grief, suicide, and recovery. I am pleased to have the opportunity to present this personal body of work as well as discuss the role ongoing projects serve in the artist's practice.
Dialogue and critique are important to the SPE mission.
