Since January 2021, a multi-institution workgroup of diverse higher education photography coordinators called the 'Photography Curriculum Focus Group', have held a series of virtual focus groups to envision the future direction of photographic education. Within our workgroup, we have been meeting monthly to identify the changes happening in the field of photography, and rethink how modifications within photography curricula and programming can best prepare the next generations of photography focused undergraduate students for future photography practice.
In this 60-Minute Teaching and Learning Workshop, the Photography Curriculum Focus Group will broaden this problem-solving conversation to participants. In this workshop, additional insights will be solicited on institution-specific trends and curricular reformations pertaining to pressing topics such as student recruitment and retention, professional development, and curriculum programing. This session will not only help participants gain immediate insights and possible resolutions to their own programs' challenges, but it will ultimately provide a clearer direction for faculty members and administrators to improve their photography programs over the span of this next decade.
The workshop will be open to 20 faculty/administrator participants and will be facilitated by 2 members of the Photography Curriculum Focus Group. The facilitators will moderate a process where participants will analyze their photography programs to identify common institution-specific strengths, weaknesses, opportunities for improvements, and foreseeable challenges. After the conference, a more comprehensive report of all the groups' findings will be emailed for workshop participants and SPE members to view.
Limited to 20 People, Educators and Administrators.
