Alex Kolls
Saturday, October 11 - 10:00AM to 10:30AM
Jenkins Fine Art Center Rm 1326
In this student presentation, Alex Kolls shares his experiences with a series of experiments on pushing the limitations of average lenses to the extremes. He will be focusing on the techniques and styles of shooting which allow for super macro that would otherwise be physically impossible without highly specialized and expensive lenses and microscopes. Over the past year he has been experimenting with lenses in a wide variety of ways. Utilizing household items such as trash bags, electrical tape, paper towel rolls and more combined with standard "nothing special" portrait and kit lenses allowing him to temporarily convert his DSLR into something more along the lines of a microscope. Making use of these techniques minimizes cost and allows for retaining a level of control that would otherwise be impossible if relying on more conventional solutions. In this presentation he will be sharing his experiences, revelations, customization, failures and successes as well as tips and tricks to allow others to dive into the fascinating world of affordable super macro.
Dialogue and critique are important to the SPE mission.
