My work over the past 8 years has revolved around the quickly evolving nature of teenage culture. This evolution, while in constant motion, has sped up with the emergence of the Internet and the advent of personal communication tools such as smart phones. Young people, who's minds have not yet fully formed concepts of their existence as beings in a physical world, have been thrust into the virtual world as well. Now, while in the middle of finding their own identities, the are forced to manage multiple identities online, quickly shifting between virtual identities as well as between the physical and virtual worlds. This shifting has led to major changes in the way that young people view their relationships with theworld in general, with their friends and lovers, with the media, and with themselves. As teenage culture has evolved and adapted to these new relationships, I have been there documenting with my camera. My presentation will trace this evolution and pose questions about the nature of relationships.
