Integrative Learning Approaches: Enduring Women as a Study in Engagement
An NYU graduate (Ph.D. '98) and Associate Professor of Art History at St. Edward's University in Austin, Texas, Mary Brantl teaches across the Art History discipline with a particular focus on her own work on History of Photography. In recent years key research and presentations have dealt with immigrant photographers in mid-20th-century America, including her SPE-South Central 2013 presentation on Marion Palfi. Her most recent significant publication was an essay on the German years of abstract artist Paul Fontaine for the 2013 Work Standing Up: The Life and Work of Paul Fontaine catalog. Her 2014 SPE-South Central presentation draws on a unique, collaborative teaching experience that produced the material which became the 2013 Enduring Women exhibition at the Bullock Texas State History Museum in Austin.
Dialogue and critique are important to the SPE mission.
