The iPhone enlarger...the app of luxury

Jonathan Trundle, Photographer and Professor of Photography in the Department of Electronic Media Communication, earned his B.S. in Mass Communications from Middle Tennessee State University (2001) in Murfreesboro Tennessee and his M.F.A. in Photography and Digital Imaging from the Maryland Institute College of Art (2006) in Baltimore Maryland. He currently teaches entry level and advanced level classes in the Photography Program of EMC and he oversees the operations of the Photography Building on the MTSU campus. In addition to teaching he also serves as the Program Coordinator for the MTSU Photography Program and he provides the required oversight for all operations of the educational spaces, chemistry darkrooms, computer labs, curriculum planning, equipment purchases, equipment maintenance, constant "Photo Crib" supervision, as well as on the spot technical troubleshooting and demonstrations of equipment and imagery.

His personal photographic work has a main focus of slit shutter and slit scanning cameras where he uses various types of camera formats to explore the element of linear time within an image. He builds, modifies, hacks, and constructs film cameras, projection devices, and he writes code for computer programs and digital cameras to suit his needs of expression and exploration within the photographic medium. His work records subject matter and produces images not possible within the traditional factory specifications. This approach allows him to distort certain portions of an image while keeping certain portions relative and by showing both the distortions and the predictable results in the same image the result provides the viewer with a new way of interpreting the world and a new respect for the mundane. He is equally proficient in numerous types of photographic mediums with an emphasis on medium format, large format, and ultra-large format cameras. He also works with alternative processes in photography and that has influenced other directions in his personal work of pinhole camera construction, large-scale screen-printing, artist book making, and artist book binding techniques.

Galleries in Baltimore, Washington D.C., and New Jersey display his work and he is receiving recognition from these and surrounding areas. Jonathan resides in Murfreesboro Tennessee with his wife, Liberty Trundle, and his son, Arlo Trundle.
