Establishing and Running a Community Darkroom in the 21st Century

Nashville Community Darkroom

Saturday, October 04 - 10:00AM to 11:00AM
STU 224

In the age of the affordable compact cameras, smart phones, and DSLRs, why would a group of volunteers-all with real jobs and families-set out to establish a community darkroom dedicated to traditional film photography with a focus on arts education? How would they raise the money? Who would be interested in a project like that? And if they could manage such a Herculean task as opening a wet darkroom/gallery/classroom in an old check cashing space, on the east side of Nashville, would the community support such a crazy idea?

In "Establishing and Running a Community Darkroom in the 21st Century," you'll meet several founding board members of the newly minted Nashville Community Darkroom. You'll hear tales of woe, tragedy, comedy, triumph, and perseverance. Our hope is to make you laugh, spread the word about our activities, and maybe even plant the seeds for other active community ventures elsewhere.
