Long considered an unfortunate accident in photographic printing, mordanage received a creative comeback in the 60s, when French artist Jean-Pierre Sudre codified it. With the resurgent popularity of alternative processes in recent years, interest in mordanage has been growing as well. However, due to its complexity and its myriad of options, many artists give up on its possibilities.
This presentation will discuss the different approaches and artistic reasons for incorporating mordancage in one's creative method. It will discuss the chemicals, the sources, the inspirations and the challenges in using it.
Dialogue and critique are important to the SPE mission.
